FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers, including the ones that mean saying no.
Do I need a Google or Dropbox account to use this?
No. QuadPlay never asks you to sign into anything: not Google, not Dropbox, not QuadPlay itself. Paste a public or unlisted share link and it plays. There’s no QuadPlay account either: no email, no password, no profile of any kind.
What video sources actually work?
Google Drive and Dropbox share links, direct MP4/MOV links, live HLS (.m3u8) streams, and Vimeo direct-file links from a paid Vimeo plan. Set sharing to “Anyone with the link” on Drive and Dropbox links. A link to a folder, or one that needs a sign-in, won’t play.
Does QuadPlay support YouTube?
No, and it’s not coming later. Apple TV has no way for a third-party app to legitimately play YouTube: there’s no YouTube tvOS app SDK, and extracting raw stream URLs violates YouTube’s terms. If your source video is on YouTube, re-host it somewhere direct-linkable first, like Google Drive or Dropbox.
What happens if my internet drops mid-display?
Nothing. That’s the point. Every video streams immediately, then quietly downloads a local copy in the background (up to 20GB cached on the Apple TV) and hot-swaps to it at the same playback position. Once a video is cached, it keeps playing whether or not the network is still there.
Can I control what's playing without walking up to the TV?
You can set up and rename a wall from your phone, and switch between saved Scenes from the TV itself in one click, but there’s no live remote control of a wall that’s already playing from your phone. That’s deliberate: keeping a pairing session open indefinitely would let anyone who spots the pairing code on screen control your display too.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, the monthly plan starts with a 3-day free trial, once per Apple ID. Cancel any time before it ends in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions and you won’t be charged. Prefer not to deal with a trial at all? The one-time Lifetime purchase skips it entirely.
Monthly or Lifetime: which should I pick?
Both unlock the exact same app. It’s a payment choice, not a features one. If you’re not sure QuadPlay is a long-term fit, start with the 3-day trial on Monthly. If you already know you’ll use it for years, Lifetime at $199 breaks even in about eight months and never renews again.
Do you collect my data?
No. QuadPlay has no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising SDKs. There isn’t even an account to attach data to. The one exception: on networks that block phone-to-TV pairing directly (hotels, conference centers), your video links pass briefly through our relay and get deleted within minutes. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
Is there an iPhone or iPad app?
No, QuadPlay runs on Apple TV only. Your phone’s job is just to scan the pairing QR code and paste video links into a web page. There’s nothing to download or install on it.
